What is Zincalume® Steel?

Zincalume® steel cladding is widely used in construction, particularly in building steel sheds.

It’s a unique blend of advanced technology, offering durability and a more environmentally friendly option to other claddings.

Zincalume® steel comprises a coating composition of 43.5% zinc, 55.0% aluminium and 1.5% silicon. The minimum coating mass of 150 g/m2 (AZ150) offers superior corrosion performance under various conditions compared to other metallic-coated steel. With additional proprietary surface treatment, ZINCALUME® steel also provides a combination of benefits just not available with generic Aluminum/Zinc ( Al/Zn) coated alternatives.

An Introduction to Zincalume® Steel

Zincalume® steel was introduced by BlueScope in 1976 and has been refined over the years to meet Australian customers’ needs. It’s a galvanized steel product incorporating a patented aluminium-zinc alloy coating. This combination of zinc, aluminium, and silicon creates a material with exceptional corrosion resistance and impressive longevity, making it an ideal choice for various construction applications. In 2013, ZINCALUME® steel with Activate® technology.

The Strength of Innovation

At the heart of Zincalume® steel lies a groundbreaking innovation: the aluminium-zinc alloy coating. Compared to traditional galvanized steel Zincalume® offers superior corrosion resistance and protection against the elements. The combination of zinc, aluminium, and silicon forms a protective barrier that shields the steel from rust, corrosion, and degradation, even in the harshest environments.

Unrivalled Durability and Longevity

The durability of Zincalume® steel is a testament to its quality and advanced composition. The protective alloy coating not only safeguards the steel from corrosion but also increases its lifespan by resisting wear and tear. This longevity is particularly advantageous in regions with high humidity, coastal areas, and industrial settings, where traditional materials might succumb to the challenges posed by the elements.

Sustainability at its Core

In an era where sustainability is a global imperative, Zincalume® steel takes centre stage by offering eco-conscious solutions. The material’s extended lifespan reduces the need for frequent replacements, curbing the consumption of resources and minimizing waste. Furthermore, the aluminium-zinc alloy coating contributes to the material’s long-term viability, ensuring structures remain resilient and intact for decades.

Versatility for Diverse Applications

Zincalume® steel’s versatility makes it a sought-after choice for architects and builders worldwide. Its applications range from roofing and wall cladding to industrial and agricultural structures. The material’s malleability allows for creative designs and efficient installation, catering to aesthetic preferences and functional requirements.

Architectural Aesthetics

Beyond its functional attributes, Zincalume® steel also offers an appealing visual aspect. Its metallic finish can complement various architectural styles, from modern and minimalist to industrial and rustic. The material’s ability to age gracefully over time adds to its charm, creating a character-rich patina that enhances the visual appeal of structures.

Through Zincalume® groundbreaking alloy coating, it exemplifies the potential to combine innovation with environmental consciousness. As the construction industry continues to evolve, Zincalume® Steel remains a steadfast partner, fortifying the structures of today and tomorrow while leaving a legacy of strength, durability, and responsible progress.
